Mindful Movement, Yoga and Qigong:
In modern society we move a lot less than our bodies need to in order to stay healthy. Movement is fundamental for our wellbeing at all ages and is essential for healthy aging. Practices such as Yoga and Qigong are wonderful ways to move our bodies in ways they would not otherwise move during the day. The mindful nature of these practices also means they are a kind of moving meditation, effective in quietening the mind.
Qigong and Yoga are extremely versatile and so are suitable for all ages and capacities. I have a passion for working with people who are new to mind-body movement practices, or anyone who assumes that such practices are ‘not for them’ due to age, fitness, flexibility, health or other conditions.
How Does It Work?
I offer Yoga and Qigong classes and workshops online and in person. Mindfulness has become popular in recent years as a standalone practice, but is also intrinsic to many of the ancient movement practices such as Yoga and Chi Kung. Mindfulness is fundamental to my own self-care practices, and this comes across in all the movement and meditation classes I run. I have found beauty and benefit in all the practices I have trained in, and so all my classes integrate aspects from each practice. Sign up for updates on latest classes, retreats and workshops.
What is Yoga?
The word Yoga literally means ‘to unite’. This reflects the aim of Yoga to bring together the body, the mind and breath through the practice. Yoga is sometimes be perceived as something for fit and flexible people who can make impressive shapes with their body. This is not the reality of Yoga at all. Whenever the body, mind and breath come together, even in the gentlest of movements – there is Yoga. It is a wonderful movement practice that is accessible to all regardless of age or ability.
Classes involve a combination of breath work and mindful movement tailored to the group or individual, for example Chair Yoga where appropriate.

What is Qigong?
Qigong is sometimes referred to as ‘Chinese Yoga’. Qigong is the movement practice that Tai Chi has been based on, and it literally means ‘Energy Work’. Qigong is primarily a standing practice so it is particularly suitable for those who prefer not to get up and down from the floor. It can also be practiced sitting down. With its roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qigong allows us to balance and nourish targeted organs and systems as needed to support balance and health.
